3 Reasons Why You MUST HAVE Google Search Console
1. Sitemaps – Get Your Blog Found In Searches
So your blog is live and your getting traffic from social media and word of mouth. That’s great but if you don’t have your sitemap submitted to Google then the chances are that the page views and users you are getting are quite low. Basically without one you’re not getting eyeballs on your site!
So what are Sitemaps? Well they’re not what I thought they were. I just remembered the old websites in the 80’s having a page called site map. You might have seen them they have a link to every page on the website.
A sitemap is a directory of all your pages and posts but you don’t have it displayed as a page on your website. Today’s sitemaps are different.
Why you MUST submit a Sitemap
A Sitemap is a structured listing of all the pages on your site. It is used by web crawlers (Bots) like Google to index your site so that it can understand what it is about. This means that when someone “Googles” something your site can be shown in the results. SWEET! So if you haven’t submitted your sitemap your site won’t come up!
You don’t need to set a page up on your website and they are not required. But Sitemaps are HIGHLY encouraged for all websites. A sitemap allows the crawlers of your site to get to all areas of your website no matter the size. This helps with Search Engine Optimization (SEO) because it makes it easier for search engines to find all the content on your website
Once you have connected your website to Google Search Console you can then submit your blog’s sitemap to Google for FREE. Once submitted
2. Google Search Terms – What You’re Website is Ranking for
With Google Search Console you can actually find the exact search terms and queries that people used to find your website. So Google is telling you when it shows your website to “Googlers”. These queries are pure gold for you, you can see the exact words and spelling that people are using to search for topics. You can use this to create more blog posts and content. 3. Improve your Search Appearance
The Data Highlighter tool allows you to tell Google how to read your website. According to Google
“Data Highlighter is a webmaster tool for teaching Google about the pattern of structured data on your website.”
Using the Data Highlighter gives more information about how your site is laid out. It’s important to tell google the types of information you have on your site like blog posts, recipes and products. The more you tell Google the better it understands your website and the better it is for your traffic!
It means that reviews, products, and events will show in search results as a rich snippet. The Data Highlighter tool is another way to boost your SEO and traffic. It will help improve your click-thru rates on search results.
You can do so many things with Google Search Console tools:
- Confirm that Google can find and crawl your site.
- Fix indexing problems and request re-indexing of new or updated content.
